One year on from a fatal hit-and-run, officers return to the scene to appeal for witnesses to contact them.

Just after 17:00hrs on Wednesday, 28 November, 52-year-old, Steven Howard, was struck by a car on Chase Green Avenue near the junction of Bycullah Avenue in Enfield as he was crossing the road.

He was taken to a north London hospital where he died from his injuries on Saturday, 1 December.

The driver of the car involved in the collision did not stop at the scene.

Detectives believe that the vehicle was a dark coloured Smartcar and the registration plate began with the letter ‘E’.

Despite extensive enquiries and speaking to a number of witnesses, officers would like to hear from anyone who may not have come forward at the time or may know the person involved in the hit-and-run.

Officers from the Met’s Roads and Transport Command will be returning to the scene of the crime today in the hope of speaking to anyone with information.

Detective Sergeant José-Paulo Qureshi, from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Today, Thursday, 28 November, marks one year on since a driver left Mr Howard fighting for his life on the cold, hard pavement without considering their actions or the pain they had left the victim in.

“I would like to think that this hit-and-run has been playing on the drivers mind for a whole year and they will now do the right thing and come forward and hand themselves in.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who might hold any information about this devastating incident. Did a family member or friend have some unexplained damage to the front of their car, or did they change their car all of a sudden with no explanation? Maybe they were acting different or seemed quite reserved? Have they confided in you and you don’t know what to do.
