Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a terraced house converted into flats on Holloway Road between Fortnam Road and Tollington Way in Islington.

Most of a flat on the ground floor was damaged by the fire and a small part of a flat on the first floor was also damaged. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus rescued one man from the fourth floor via a ladder. He was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation by London Ambulance Service crews and taken to hospital. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus also rescued a man from the first floor via a ladder.

The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 13 calls to the fire.

The Brigade was called at 1307 and the fire was under control by 1412. Fire crews from Islington, Hornsey. Shoreditch, Stoke Newington and Kentish Town fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
