Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry’s visit to Cyprus on Wednesday was described as an important step in strengthening bilateral relations, a statement issued by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry in Cairo said.

The Ministry’s spokesperson, Ahmed Hafez said both sides discussed regional and international issues of mutual interest, adding that Shoukry’s visit to Cyprus was an important step in strengthening bilateral relations.

The statement, issued in the local press, underlines that the talks concentrated on policy and economic cooperation, especially in the energy field.

Together with his Cypriot counterpart, Nikos Christodoulides, the two examined the trilateral cooperation agreement with Greece and expressed hope that there will be a meeting soon in Cairo to discuss how to handle in a more effective manner the bilateral issues so they can serve the countries’ interests.
According to Al Ahram newspaper, the Cypriot Minister underlined the strong desire of Cyprus for the establishment of a strategic partnership with Egypt.
