Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters dealt with a fire in a shop with flats above on Victoria Park Road in Hackney.

Part of the basement, ground and first floor was damaged by fire.

The Brigade was called at 1722 and the fire was under control by 1829. Fire crews from Bethnal Green, Homerton, Stoke Newington, Shoreditch, Poplar, Shadwell, Leyton and Millwall fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
