Specialist homicide detectives investigating the death of an 89-year-old woman in Tottenham have arrested a man today.

At around 10.45 hours on Sunday 4th August 2019 Police were called by London Ambulance Service to a report of a body of an elderly woman found at an address in Waltheof Gardens, N17.

The victim, who has been named as Dorothy Woolmer, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Next of kin have been informed.

Officers believe the suspect(s) gained entry to the woman’s house in Waltheof Gardens at some point between Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

Enquiries are ongoing to establish any motive. Officers haven’t ruled out burglary as a motive, but they retain an open mind at this early stage.

A 22-year-old man was arrested in the Tottenham area on suspicion of murder shortly before 18.00hrs on Monday, 5 August. He has been taken into custody at a north London polcie station.

Detective Chief Inspector Garry Moncrieff of Specialist Crime said: “The woman had clearly been assaulted and, as such, a murder investigation has been launched.

“I want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious in and around Waltheof Gardens and the surrounding area on Saturday night or Sunday morning.”
