A 60-year-old-man from Islington died at an east London hospital on Wednesday, 31 July.

His next of kin have been informed.

A post-mortem will take place in due course.

The investigation follows a call to police at 06:40hrs on Saturday, 13 July to reports of an unconscious man at a residential address in Beachcroft Way, N19.

The man was found with serious head injuries and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

Enquires revealed the he had been the victim of an assault at about 01:10hrs on 13 July, outside the Royal Oak Public House, St Johns Way, Islington, N19.

As a result of enquiries, a 26-year-old-man from Islington was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm (GBH) on Saturday, 13 July.

Leon Tayler, 26 (30.03.1993) of Cornwallis Square, N19 was subsequently charged on the 14 July with GBH with intent.

He was kept in custody at to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ the next day and was remanded in custody by the court.

He will appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Monday, 12 August.

The investigation is being led by officers from the Central North Command Unit in consultation with officers from Specialist Crime.
