As the country sizzled in record breaking temperatures, twenty four gladiators gathered at Pavenham Park

Golf Club on 24th July 2019 to execute the Annual Ryder Cup clash between these two long standing

societies. The London Society led by George Georgiou and the Midland Society led by Nick Ktori.

The Holders and as away team hit the first tee shots of the day thus beginning the morning Doubles session.

Captain George Georgiou and former Captain Aki Toumazos took on Costas Papacosta and Perry Ktori.

At the end of the morning session as all games came to an end, the score couldn’t be any tighter as it stood with a 3-3 score line.

As all players took on lots of liquid plus light lunch to recharge their energy levels for upcoming Singles in the afternoon session, the dream and expectations from both sides was understandably quite high.

As the Singles were well under way, the London boys were actually leading the match by two points, but the

Midland boys had an exceptional mid-section winning stretch of four matches, which tilted the final result towards them.

As the final groups arrived, despite a late rally from the London boys, the Midland boys did just enough to hold on by winning the Singles sessions by a score of 6 ½ to 5 ½ , so overall score line of

Midlands 9 ½ v London 8 ½. Resulting that the Midland boys triumph and hold on to their trophy in 2019.

I think both set of societies have to be congratulated in playing in such high temperatures and producing a close result.

Congratulations go to the Midland Captain Nick Ktori and troops for retaining their trophy for another year.

Congratulations to the London Captain George Georgiou for putting up a good fight.
