A wave of council housebuilding is starting across the borough after Haringey Council provided a major update on their Council Housing Delivery Programme at Cabinet on Tuesday night.

Haringey have made it one of their major priorities to deliver 1000 council homes at council rents by 2022.

As we approach the 100th anniversary of the first wave of large-scale council housebuilding under the ‘Addison Act’ it is fitting that Haringey Council are taking a major stand to help ease the housing crisis across London.

The council’s direct delivery of new council homes at council rents will get underway at Templeton Site in July 2019 after cabinet agreed a construction contract to build the homes.  More such contracts will follow in the months ahead.

The council has already agreed to acquire 170 council homes at council rents on the Welbourne, 500 White Hart Lane and Plevna sites.

On Tuesday night Cabinet also approved the acquisition of up to 11 affordable new homes at the Hornsey Town Hall Development and 46 new homes at the Red House site in West Green Road.

The council will enter into a funding agreement with the GLA to access £546,000 through the Home Building Capacity Fund to help build the Council’s capacity to deliver a new generation of council homes.

“We are gearing up to deliver on these promises and put the mechanisms in place to ensure we have a sustainable programme that can surpass this number in the future.

“I am thrilled that we have been given additional funding by the Mayor of London’s Office and it shows the confidence they have put in Haringey to deliver this scheme.
