The Cypriot Golf Society held their fourth event of the year, the Captains Cup, on Thursday 13th June 2019 at Dyrham park Golf Club. There was a fantastic turnout of 64 members, even though the weather forecast looked grim, with rain predicted all day long!

Captain George Vavs thanked the generous sponsor of the day, Mario Symeou of Keyside Properties Ltd, and gave a short speech prior to the fabulous breakfast provided.

Dyrham Park Golf Club is one of the best local golf courses in North London, and this was the 7th consecutive year that the Captains Cup has been held there. The format of the competition was 36 holes stableford, with lunch in-between the 2 rounds, followed by dinner in the evening. The course was in fantastic condition, and buggies were provided for all 64 golfers.

Unfortunately, the rain was relentless, and after 18 holes, some of the greens were flooded and had become unplayable, so the afternoon round had to be called off. This meant that the winner of the day would be awarded to the leader of the morning round of 18 holes.

This was a delight for Sotiris (Sam) Aristidou, who came in with the highest points after 18 holes, 39 points playing off a 15 handicap. This was a fantastic achievement bearing in mind the challenging weather conditions. In addition, Sam was runner up at last years Captains Cup, so he was a worthy winner.

Dyrham Park Golf Club have to be commended for the way they handled the difficult situation of calling off the afternoon 18 holes. A generous discount was given to all golfers for the overall cost of the day and dinner was cancelled at short notice. Once again, the service, hospitality and attitude of the staff members at Dyrham, was exemplary!
