An ambitious range of projects that will deliver employment opportunities and infrastructure in the heart of the borough is being explored by Haringey Council.

Cabinet has agreed that the council will explore a series of options of how best to utilise council-owned buildings in Wood Green and maximise their benefit to the local community.

The plans consider the opportunity to provide a new civic hub for Haringey, with community facilities in a multi-purpose building which would also host council offices.

The council is also considering the opportunity to provide a state-of-the-art leisure centre with a swimming pool, improving access to health and fitness facilities for local people. Previous consultation with the community has shown that support for a leisure centre in Wood Green is a priority with residents.

Improving customer service is a high priority, as is ensuring that all council buildings are fully accessible and environmentally friendly.

A new civic hub would establish a central location in Haringey for residents to interact with council employees and access the services they need more efficiently, as well as relax, enjoy cultural events and utilise communal spaces in a welcoming environment at an easy-to-reach site. Wood Green is seen as the ideal area for this as the only Metropolitan Town Centre in North London.

Cllr Charles Adje, Cabinet Member for Finance and Strategic Regeneration, said:

These options would allow us to use council-owned land to boost investment in Wood Green and provide residents with better access to leisure facilities, council services and communal space.
