Hundreds of free spaces on courses over the summer have been made available to young people in Enfield.

The Enfield Summer University programme will be returning this July, offering courses and workshops to people aged 11 to 19 in areas such as dance, sport, music and design. Around 1,200 places are available.
Some of the highlights include:
• Spin kick martial arts
• Sports leadership programme
• Drumming
• Introduction to the world of medicine
• Chess
• Dance skills and techniques
• Cookery course
• Drama and puppetry
• Screen printing and printmaking
• Website design
• Emergency first aid
And much more.
Enfield Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Safety & Cohesion, Cllr Nneka Keazor, said: “The Summer University allows young people to get involved in a range of positive events they would not normally be able to engage in. By providing a fun and educational programme, we hope that young people will feel engaged and supported.”
The Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Cllr Rick Jewell, said: “We have had a massive response from organisations wishing to support our Summer University and I would also like to personally thank the Young Leaders who helped to design the programme which is looking fantastic. By providing a comprehensive, fun and engaging season of events, we can help young people gain new skills, increase their confidence and discover fresh talents.”
The Summer University has been made possible following the provision of £150,000 of Council money last year. The money was allocated by the Council Leader to support projects for young people in the borough during 2018 and 2019. Following last year’s smaller-scale, incredibly popular summer scheme, the Council decided to embark upon a more comprehensive programme of events this year.
To take part in this year’s Summer University, you must sign up in advance, either by attending the enrolment day on Saturday 20 July, between 12pm and 5pm at the Civic Centre, or after this date by emailing [email protected]. Demand is expected to be high and places on courses will be awarded on a first come, first served basis.
Further information can be found on the Youth Enfield website,  where you can download a brochure and application form. In addition, Enfield Council provides a newsletter containing information for young people. You can subscribe to it, here: https://bit.ly/2GIGPEm
Enfield Council would also like to take the opportunity to thank the Young Leaders who have helped put the programme together. They are: Zhanae Forbes-Coleman, Marli Thomas, Tyee Cunningham-Watson, Silvana Lewin, Malikah Olokoobi, Bradley Marlborough, Ellie Brunton, Tameeka Wollaston, Kirsty Chitepo.
