The President of the Republic yesterday concluded that the amendment to the Menendez-Rubio bill was “unfortunate”. The problem is not so much the amendment, but the bill itself, which, which is aiming to serve US strategic interests in our region, is damaging the vital interests of the Republic of Cyprus and hurting the relations of the Republic of Cyprus with other states, equally important as the US, and I primarily mean Cyprus’ relations with Russia.

The amendment tabled highlights the negative and dangerous content of the draft Bill for the vital interests of the Republic of Cyprus. This is the bill that the government ruling forces were celebrating about.

Once again, the declarations by the government ruling forces, this time in relation to Cyprus’ foreign policy, have proved to be a sham. The multi-level foreign policy being advertised by the government ruling forces has proved in practice to be empty talk.
