CyWIneFest’s entertainment programme is always something that visitors look forward too, having the main stage play host to a wide selection of community acts!
The acts create a real community feel, as family and friends gather in support bringing with them their own fans creating a warm and friendly atmosphere of encouragement. The stage is not exclusively reserved for singers, we’ve had plenty of dancers and musicians over the years and when we’re talking Cypriot dancers, plenty of props are required, creating an almost theatrical audience engaging dialogue. We are looking forward to traditional Cypriot dances performed by the Philhellenes Dance Group and for the not so traditional, an amazing display of a variety of dancing styles by Platinum Performing Arts School.
Traditional Cypriot Marathovounou Community Choir who are delighted to be providing a uniquely different dynamic to the rest of the acts. From the harmonic sounds of a community choir to the characterful Bambas, who you may remember from series 12 of Britain’s Got Talent audition playing bouzouki behind his head, singing, dancing and balancing glasses on his head, leading him to getting a big yes from the judges! Mario Christou, a Greek dance teacher with years of experience will be displaying this most expressive artform by performing his vareda moves. Talented musician Alex Jacovides will be performing live on stage in a homage to the sounds of Greek music with a solo, simply Alex and his Bouzouki!
Elizabeth Chapman is widely known in the Cypriot community as lead female vocalist of the band Midas Touch. She has also released her own singles “Hioni Sti Kardia”, “Irthes Esi” and the very popular “Stis 7” – all written and produced by Harry K. From backing singing to major artists such as Ed Sheeran at the Brit Awards (Live at the O2), singing a duet with Yiannis Ploutarchos alongside well known rapper K Koke, a one woman show of “Musical Theatre” at The Dugdale, to doing a Motown gig with Heatwave’s Alex Charles at 100 Wardour – it’s evident that Elizabeth has a big love of singing from a very broad range of music styles and is looking forward to her performance!
British born Cypriot vocalist, Roger Grech, specialises in Greek and English classics from yesteryear will be performing centre stage this year In 2012 Roger was one of the LGR All Star Music Awards finalists, one of the judges on the show was record producer Mike Bennett encouraged the recording of a few EP Albums and arranged performances at a number of open mic events and supported legendary music artists Anita Harris, Angie Brown and Dr And The Medics. In 2015 a singer songwriter “Empop” wrote Roger Grech an original song titled “Caught my Eye” which was put forward as an entry to a competition in the USA winning best pop song category at the Akademia Music Awards in Los Angeles. In 2018 he teamed up with renowned record producer Stuart Epps and recorded three original songs titled. “Only You”, “My Sentimental Heart”, and “Black Raven White Dove”.
Consistently active in the performing arts from an early age, Kat Neocleous has always harboured a love of connecting and entertaining through the act of song. Kat has performed in a variety of live lounge sessions, festivals and was chosen to perform in the Westfield Presents singer-songwriter showcase in 2018. She was also featured in an episode of the docu-series “Palmers Green Tales” to talk about her music journey so far and share some of her songs. Her Cypriot roots have also often provided creative inspiration and seen her regularly perform in community events. Kat is currently putting the final touches to her solo EP and preparing to release the first single “Liar Liar” this summer 2019, we are looking forward to hearing Kat’s songs live on CyWineFest’s stage!
Eleni C is a multi-talented, award winning Singer/Songwriter who has just completed the first leg of her European Tour. She is set to release her new single ‘One Last Time’ in June, from her début EP, Broken Ice.
Some of the highs in Eleni C’s career include performing at Free Radio Live concert at the Birmingham NEC Arena, Pride in London and the Westfield Music Cube. She has also gone on to open for acts such as Fleur East, Alesha Dixon, Foxes, Stooshe, and Little Boots, as well as the ska-reggae band Locomondo. Eleni C’s fresh sound is highly anticipated, making her CyWineFest debut!
The Bi-communal Music and Folk-Dance Association “Cyprus” founded in January 2012 consists of Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots celebrating common traditions by uniting talented people from both societies. The buffer zone is their ‘classroom’ whether on the north of the south side of the line, establishing Cypriot unity as well as passing on our common culture to future generations in its purest form and we look forward to seeing an expression of this live on stage!
