New drinking fountains at Clerkenwell Green and Islington Green are offering free water refills and helping to cut plastic waste.

The two fountains, installed this week, offer a handy place for residents, workers and visitors to refill water bottles on-the-go for free.

They were installed this week (May 6) and are two of six new fountains for Islington delivered through the Mayor of London’s Drinking Fountain Fund, run with #OneLess, in partnership with Islington Council. Three fountains were installed earlier this year near Old Street Roundabout, in Highbury Fields and in St John’s Gardens, as part of the same scheme.

The new fountains are part of Islington Council’s commitment and ongoing work to cut the use of single-use plastic. It is estimated that around the world, eight million tonnes of plastic ends up in the ocean every year, where it damages the environment, harms animals and enters the human food chain.
