Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire at a block of flats undergoing refurbishment in St Edmund’s Close, Primrose Hill, Camden.

A first and second floor flat were damaged by fire. Crews led one man to safety from the building using a fire escape hood, which blocks out toxic fire gases, and he was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service.

A woman was treated at the scene by London Ambulance service.

Station Manager Ben King, who was at the scene, said: “When crews arrived they were confronted with a well-developed fire and worked quickly to bring it under control. The fire was very visible and our control room took a high number of calls to the incident.”

The Brigade was called at 1234 and was under control by 1433. Fire crews from Euston, Kentish Town, Paddington and West Hampstead Stations attended the incident.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.
