By voting for AKEL-Left-New Forces, we are giving strength to our people’s force, to our vision of another Cyprus in a different Europe

Today I address all citizens.
Both those who participated or followed the election campaigns of the parties and those who kept a distance from them or who felt disappointed with their poise, ethos and level.
I urge you to go en masse to cast your vote.
From both sides of the shameful line of division.
To convey together the message that our Homeland can no longer live divided.
That it wants to live in freedom and be reunited.
Without any occupying troops and guarantors.
With security and political equality.
With full sovereign rights, a single State, a single citizenship.
That it deserves to develop into a normal, modern and democratic European country.

That it deserves to become a symbol of peaceful coexistence and co-operation.
I call on you not to miss the opportunity given to you on Sunday.
Irrespective of ideological position or party origin, we can send out a powerful and clear message together.
To declare “Enough is enough!”
We’ve had enough of the insults.
Enough of the false dilemmas that do not give an answer to people’s real problems and do not serve popular interests.
No more blackmailing scaremongering that alters what is at stake at the elections.

Enough of the hypocrisy of those who say they are taking Europe forward while driving it to the past.
We’ve had enough of the government ruling forces who are telling you to “not turn back”. They are the ones who are turning us back to the past to which they belong to and from which their black propaganda draws inspiration from.
Enough of the intimidation of DISY’s dissatisfied voters which they are trying to rally by refusing to take on their responsibilities and lying about what they do and what they don’t do. They blame their own failure, incapability and ineffectiveness on AKEL.

Enough of their sloganeering about forging unity at the same time as they are sowing division and generating polarization.
Enough of their celebrations about the work they claim makes them proud, even though it should provoke shame.

In the hours before going to cast our vote, let’s think about all those pledges and commitments made that were broken, the reforms that were not implemented, and the lies we were told.
Instead of the spring they had promised us they brought us a permanent winter of interwoven interests, corruption, arrogance, poverty, foreclosures and attacks on every public property and social gain.
Let’s recall the “I pledge to…” that has become a joke.
The undermining of the public education and health system, the loss of ports and energy.

The deregulation of labour relations.
The cuts in wages and pensions.
The downgrading of services, public institutions, infrastructures and the environment.
The sellout of the Cyprus Cooperation Bank.

The disorganization of the Police force, the crimes committed against the immigrant working women, the institutional racism the government ruling forces have shown.
The undermining of Independent Authorities, democratic institutions and control mechanisms.
There is only one question we have to answer on Sunday.

It is very simple and clear question.
Will we reward or denounce them?
Will we follow them on the downhill path they have taken or will we with our vote put a stop to their downward course?
Will we send out a strong and clear message that we want things to change or will we allow our vote to get lost in choices that don’t have the power and the will to stop the policies of the Right that lead to the growth of the far-right?

Not a single vote must go to waste.
We mustn’t make a wrong choice.
Our conscious mustn’t be distracted.
All those who can no longer withstand this state of affairs, all those who can no longer tolerate the lies, the games and tricks and the regressions of government and DISY have a choice.
That choice is AKEL-Left New Forces.
No consciousness must succumb to any false dilemmas.

No vote should go to those who the day after the elections will turn it into a support prop of the government.
The people of AKEL, the people of the Left, all those who can no longer stand the dismantling of society and the state to which they are plunging us have the responsibility and power to change things.
By voting for AKEL-Left-New Forces, we are giving strength to our people’s force, to our vision of another Cyprus in a different Europe.
