Islington in Bloom 2019 is now open – celebrating the innovation and creativity of green-fingered residents, local businesses, community groups, and schools.
The competition to find Islington’s best horticultural creations is on, following a successful launch at three local parks on Saturday, with residents gathering for gardening lessons, demonstrations, and bulb-planting.

All are welcome to get involved and help brighten up the borough – whether you have a big garden, community garden or window box. The range of categories caters for all abilities and is open to schools and businesses, individuals and community groups. Last year’s crop of entries was some of the most imaginative and creative yet, and hopes are high for this year’s competition.

Organised by Islington Council and Islington Gardeners, Islington in Bloom is a great opportunity to grow with friends and neighbours. Every entrant will receive a free bag of compost from Camden Garden Centre and winners receive a £100 voucher to spend there. Second and third place will receive vouchers worth £75 and £50.

Cllr Claudia Webbe, executive member for environment and transport, said: “Islington in Bloom is a fabulous celebration for our community – we have so many green-fingered residents and their beautiful gardening helps make Islington such a welcoming and attractive borough.

“We welcome entries from everyone – community groups, and individuals, new faces and expert gardeners alike – I am hugely looking forward to seeing this year’s entrants and celebrating the achievements of our residents and businesses.”

The entry forms this year feature a drawing by pupil Valentina Hernandez-Leonor from William Tyndale Primary School, who is the winner of a competition run among local schools.
