Knives, a balaclava, suspected class A drugs and a large quantity of suspected stolen goods have been recovered following a proactive stop by North Area Violent Crime Taskforce (VCTF) in Haringey.

Two men aged 31 and 33 have been arrested on suspicion of a number of offences including possession of bladed items, possession of drugs, theft and handling stolen goods.

Police in plain clothes were patrolling around the Ida Road, N15 area carrying out a number of pro-active stop and searches. Shortly after 1900hrs on Friday, 5 April, officers became aware of two men behaving suspiciously near a car with its door open in Caradon Way, N15.

As officers in plain clothes approached in their unmarked vehicle, one of the suspects ran off. He was caught in a high speed foot-chase, detained and arrested as above. A second man was arrested by the vehicle which initially caught police attention.

The car was searched and offensive items were found, over four bladed articles were recovered from the vehicle along with a suspected noxious substance and gloves. A large quantity of builder equipment and specialist tools were found in the vehicle. All were suspected to be stolen. The vehicle, which was on false plates, was seized by police and the two men taken to police custody for questioning.

PS Asad Ikram from North Area VCTF said: “A number of nasty knives are off the streets of Tottenham thanks to intelligence based pro-active police work. As well as Class A and B drugs substances found, we also have recovered a large haul of specialist builder tools which are all believed to be stolen. The two suspects involved were spotted by plain clothes officers and quickly arrested despite one of them running away upon sighting an unmarked police vehicle. We will continue to police, to comb through the streets and catch those suspected to be involved in criminality and bring them to justice.”
