Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters were called to a fire in a block of flats on Biggerstaff Street in Finsbury Park this afternoon.

The fire destroyed a balcony between two flats on the ninth floor of the 19 storey block. A small part of both flats was also left damaged. Thankfully there were no reported injuries. Ten people left the building before the Brigade arrived.

Station Manager Brinley Powell who was at the scene said: “The fire affected the external balcony between two flats. Two breathing apparatus crews quickly extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading any further.”

The Brigade was called at 1338 and the fire was under control at 1454. Crews from Hornsey, Kentish Town, Stoke Newington, Holloway, Tottenham and Islington fire stations attended the scene. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
