Government Spokesman, Prodromos Prodromou, underlined on Tuesday the particular political importance of the fact that the United States values the trilateral cooperation among Cyprus, Greece and Israel and are interested in it, considering that the three countries constitute a guarantee of stability and security in the region to such an extent that the US wants to reinforce this cooperation scheme with their presence.
Replying to questions by CNA, the Spokesman stressed that the US seeks to become part of the security partnership “being developed in our geopolitical area”, noting that this shows the reliability of the security and stability dynamic developed by Cyprus, through cooperation schemes, contrary to resources of tension and destabilization in the region.
The spokesman said that the 6th Trilateral Summit among Cyprus, Greece and Israel will take place on March 20 in Israel, adding that in this framework the leaders of the three countries will hold a meeting with the US Foreign Secretary Mike Pompeo. “In this way we will basically have a quartet meeting among Cyprus, Greece, Israel and the US,” he noted, adding that in this way the quartet meeting, which took place in December in Beer Sheva is being upgraded. The US was present in that the summit through is Ambassador to Israel, David Friedman.
Prodromou also noted that the trilateral cooperation among Cyprus, Greece and Israel is constantly evolving and bears fruit. Cooperation on security, Energy, entrepreneurship and other issues is being promoted on the basis of agreements and the general framework of their trilateral relations, Prodromou added.
He said that it is important that the US is seeking to be part of the security partnership “developed in our geopolitical region. This not only reflects the convergence of interests in our maritime area as regards energy issues, but also this movement by the US shows the reliability of the security and stability dynamic developed by our country, through cooperation schemes, contrary to resources of tension and destabilization,” in the region, Prodromou concluded.
