Three more people died in the past two days in Cyprus from type A flu, thus raising the number of flu related deaths to 12, a Ministry of Health press release says.

The Ministry notes that all three patients were being treated in state hospitals and had serious underlying health problems.

Since December 1, 56 serious flu cases have been recorded and patients were treated in major hospitals.

The Ministry notes that although flu activity continues, overall, the disease is in recession for the last three weeks. This decrease is particularly noticeable in the child population, it adds.

The Health Ministry reiterates that the situation is being closely monitored and recalls that the flu vaccine remains the best way to prevent the disease, especially for vulnerable population groups.

It calls on the public to strictly follow preventive measures.
