A pet budgie had a lucky escape after it was rescued from a fire at a house in Tottenham.

By another stroke of luck, the house was directly opposite Tottenham Fire Station and the home-owner only had to cross the street to alert firefighters to a fire in his oven.

The house’s four occupants left before the arrival of the Brigade. Crews quickly tackled the fire and rescued a blue and grey budgie. There were no reports of any injuries to either humans or birds.

The Brigade was alerted at 1706 and the incident was over at 1711. Two fire engines and around 10 firefighters from Tottenham fire station attended the scene.
