Two males have been arrested this morning at 07:45hrs, Friday 11 January, in connection with moped-enabled snatch and robbery offences committed against rush-hour commuters.

Since the start of January 2019, detectives from the Operation Venice Investigation Team, which tackles moped related crime, had been investigating a large number of linked snatches and robberies against commuters on the boroughs of Hackney, Islington and Camden.

Following a robust investigation and surveillance operation, officers arrested two men aged 20 and 17 in Islington, on suspicion of conspiracy to rob.

Officers recovered a stolen moped, helmets, clothing believed to be worn during the offences and property believed to be stolen.

Both suspects are currently in custody at a north London police station.

Chief Inspector Jim Corbett, Operation Venice, said:”We are committed to identifying and arresting the offenders who commit moped enabled crime at every opportunity and ensuring the safety and security of our communities.

“Offenders rely on the unwariness of the public to snatch or rob phones and other possessions, so it is so important that the public is aware of their surroundings at all times and protect their personal property.

“If you commit such an offence, you will be identified and arrested and we will seek to prosecute you at every opportunity. If convicted, you could be looking at time inside.”
