Omonia Youth Silver Gold: Under 13 Derby – Gold and Silver teams before the match (photo by Evagoras Mandrides)

Community grassroots club Omonia Youth FC, sponsored by PIA Financial Group and Philip Ross Solicitors, had plenty of reason to celebrate last Sunday as many of their teams put on some excellent performances.

Mike Petrou and Sophia Karanicholas stepped in for the absent George Pantelides in looking after the Under 14 Girls in their match against a team that is top of the league. Have lost to them earlier in the season, the development and improvement in the girls was evident to supporters as the girls put in a great team effort to secure a credible 1-1 draw. Sophia and Mike were very impressed by the team’s discipline and strong work ethic. Their improvement since their first season last year has been immense and it speaks volumes that the opposition coach said the Omonia Youth Girls were one of their toughest opponents and that their current league position does not do them justice. Chelsea scored the goal while Bethany was named Player of the Match as she made a string of great saves and kept a cool head when pressure was mounting. A special mention also to the defence who were brilliant.

In the day’s Under 13 Derby, the Under 13 Silver dominated the match and beat the Under 13 Gold 8-0.  On the back of the previous 3-2 derby defeat the Under 13 Silver went into the derby with a less emotional approach and more of a tactical strategy.

Before the match, both teams were briefed as a group, from both coaches, vice-chair Chris Mousicos the referee. The players were reminded to keep emotions, grudges and rivalry away from today’s fixture and they were advised to enjoy the game and represent the club with respect and honour. This was taken on board by all and a great match was showcased.

The Under 13 Silver went into the half time break 4-0 up and went on to score four more in the second half. Goals for the Under 13 Silver were scored by Brodie (5), Alexander P, Ru and Nikola. Alexander was also named Man of the Match.

Nick Georgiou and Dino’s Under 16 White were much improved from last week with plenty of spells of excellent quality football being displayed. Although they won the match 6-2 the match against St Albans it was unfortunately spoiled at the very end when aggression got out of control and some boys lost their heads. The referee had no choice but to send off two boys from each team off so the last 2 minutes were played 9 v 9. Thankfully all ended calmly in the end.

Goals were scored by Apostolos Tziatzios (3), Peter Michael (2) and Lyon. Theo Stavrou was named Man of the Match.

Panos Papa-Michael, Elias Constanti and Andy Michael’s Under 15 Gold went went toe-to-toe with League favourites Enfield Town  but lost 5-3 in the end.

The Under 15 Gold played them earlier in the season and lost 4-3 with 10 men, however this time the game was more even and it could have been a more positive score line if the boys didn’t give away three of the goals, which unfortunately meant that we had a two goal disadvantage for most of the game. Nevertheless the boys showed that they are good enough and it sets everything up for an exciting County Cup semi-final as the same opponents will be the opposition in a few weeks’ time.

Goals were scored by Andrew Christofi, Andy Polycarpou and Fabion Zylfi with Fabian also named Man of the Match. It was his first game back since breaking his ankle at the start of the season, and he showed great determination and quality.

Harry Theodorou and George Sammoutis’ Under 14 Silver won again, 3-2 beating Edmonton Rangers , and are on course for at least promotion thanks to a dogged display. In a very competitive game the Under 14 Silver went 1-0 up but after mounting pressure that lead was turned on its head as they fell 2-1 behind.  The team kept their heads, dug deep and were certainly well worth their triumphant win. Goals from Rohan, Aaryan and Viktor with Saif named Man of the Match.

Chris and Jimmy Mousicos’ Under 14 Gold were a missed penalty kick away from beating the reigning league champions and current leaders. They played out a credible 0-0 draw with Maccabi London Lions and Rayen Haboubi named Man of the Match.

Under 14 Omonia Youth White: Plenty of goals and three important points

In the final Under 14 match of the day, Michael Pieri’s Under 14 White are in contention for promotion after a formidable display after dispatching their opponents London Colney 10-0. In a dominant display the boys were hungry for goals and their good football paid dividends as successive opportunities were converted for a goal difference enhancing result. Goals were scored by Itiel Omadjela (3), Emmanuel Onuoha-Nzeh (2), Ollie Banks (2) Noel Allen, Santino Raia and Godwin Obeng. Godwin was named Man of the Match for an outstanding centre half performance and a stunning solo goal.

Omonia Youth Under 9 White  White are developing nicely and enjoying their football

Omi Omirou and Stel Loizou’s Under 13 Green won comfortably 4-0 against Harvesters thanks to goals from Jamal M, Mikey O, Will G and Luke M.
