Six part series of John Le Carré adaption ‘Little Drummer Girl’ started on BBC One last Sunday. The first episode visited stunning European locations including the Greek island of Naxos and Greece’s capital, Athens.

Naxos is where Charlie (Florench Pugh) meets her love interest Joseph Becker (Alexander Skarsgård) for the first time, before it quickly becomes apparent that his interests exceed the romantic.
The structures of Ancient Greece feature throughout ‘The Little Drummer Girl’, most notably the Temple of Poseidon and the Acropolis, where Charlie looks up at the evening lit Parthenon and says: “how will I ever fall in love after this?” Prime Ministerial permission had to be obtained for filming in the Acropolis and marks the first ever night shoot in Greece’s most famous landmark. The Acropolis is a must-visit while in Athens. A symbol of Grecian antiquity, the white marble columns of the Acropolis tower high above the city, where they have stood for 2,500 years. The Parthenon temple crowns the temple complex, the most important ancient site in the Western World and considered to be the pinnacle of Doric architecture.
Nearby at the Acropolis Museum, the original sculptures and lavishly coloured friezes that once belonged to the city of Pericles – before the Acropolis became the domain of the Gods – can be viewed. Plan your trip wisely: entry to the Acropolis is free of charge on the first Saturday of every month from November – March.
