From a sustainable housing scheme to an incredible theatre restoration, the winners of the bi-annual Haringey Design Awards of 2018 were announced at our annual ceremony to celebrate the very best creations in the borough.

The Alexandra Palace Theatre was the big winner, taking both the ‘Best Restoration’ crown as well as ‘Overall Winner’ award.

It was referred to as the People’s Palace and the birthplace of television, while the architects, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, were commended for their “sensitive and intelligent restoration” of the theatre. The judges commended the design strategy based on the concept of “arrested decay” which created “architectural poetry”.

Winners in the other categories were:

  • Best House – Harvey Road (Erbar Mattes Architects)
  • Best Construction – Highgate Junior School (Architype Architects)
  • Best Residential – Pinnacle N10 (PH+ Architects)
  • Best Non Residential – TEN87 Studios (KVIST Ltd)
  • Best Restoration – Alexandra Palace Theatre (Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios)
  • Best Conceptual Project –Tottenham Hale Green and Open Spaces Strategy (Kinnear Landscape Architects)
  • Best Urban Design –  Woodside Square (Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects)
