Another week another top of the table clash for Salamina today. A local derby vs unbeaten Cuffley FC.

Salamina raced into a very early lead scoring inside the first minute. Dean Fenton won a header, SB closed down the second ball, blocked the clearance and chipped the goalkeeper a great start 1-0.

Cuffley then showed why they were previously unbeaten, they play a great passing game and are a very accomplished side. The game was very competitive and in the 16th minute a long diagonal over our defence saw the Cuffley centre forward run through and smash home from the edge of the penalty area. 1-1 game on.

Salamina took control and we were creating chances but wasting them. On the 33rd minute Chris Arthur went on a surging run, slipped a ball through to Richard Georgiou who rounded the keeper to put us 2-1 up. Minutes later we should have gone further ahead, Dean Fenton found John Kyriacou advancing in the box, he beat the defender and the keeper to the ball, but somehow squeezed his shot passed the post.

With seconds remaining in the half we were undone again from a diagonal ball, again the impressive striker from Cuffley found space on the right hand side of the box and he chipped passed Charlie Crowley in goal. Half time 2-2

The second half saw a complete performance from Salamina. We took control and camped in Cuffley’s half, and we had chance after chance to extend the lead, but were very wasteful in front of goal. It wasn’t until the 78th minute when Richard Georgiou added a third goal with a low left foot drive after dodging two tackles. Salamina sealed the 3 points when Charlie Georgiou beat the offside trap, raced down the right hand side and squared to Harrison Georgiou who side footed home from 10 yards out, for 4-2 and a deserved win against a very good team.

Salamina now move 3 points clear at the top of the table after 5 games.
