Olympia 1 Komi Kebir 3

In one of the first games of the day Komi Kebir beat Olympia 3-1 in the KOPA League first division in front of a big crowd at Whittington Park.

The match started with Olympia having a good Ten minutes and Aris the Komi Kebir goalkeeper made some great saves to keep them in the game.

As the game progressed Komi Kebir started getting more confident and stronger. The team managed by Nick Hanna and now consisting of  many new young players with an influx of new players from AEK Youth.

The first goal came in the 25th minute when Con Michael turned just inside the box and blasted the ball into the back of the net giving Komi Kebir a 1-0 lead.

Just after the break Olympia equalised with a penalty scored by Anthony Furlong and it seemed for a while that Olympia was gathering momentum but Komi Kebir kept grafting and were rewarded when George Demosthenous cut in from the left and lobbed the oncoming keeper to make it 2-1 to Komi Kebir.

Then a third came for Komi in the 60th minute when George Demosthenous crossed it for Anthony Georgiou to tap it into the back of the net.

A great start for Komi Kebir and Steve Cinotti will be looking to pick up his team for the next match.

APOEL 3 OMONIA LONDON 3


It was a match full of incident with both teams having periods of dominance.

Omonia started brightly with the quartet of Luke , Jordan , Theo and Andreas a constant threat to the Apoel defence.
However against the run of play and on 10 minutes a quick counter attack from Apoel resulted in a penalty.
Omonia’s keeper Andrew Philippou made an outstanding save from Geirge Sifonios.
Omonia continued their dominance and within 10 minutes were 2-0 up with 2 excellent finishes from striker Andreas Kyprianou .

Apoel were always a threat on the counter and their forward line was full of pace strength and technique and on 34 minutes received a lifeline when they were awarded another penalty this time they made no mistake with George Lutaaya scoring.
At half time Omonia led 2-1 .
Omonia started the second period without injured striker Andreas Kyprianou and had to reshuffle a little , Apoel started strongly however another injury to midfielder Harry Philippou meant that manager Chris Prokopiou had to decide on a positional change moving Theo Kasapi into the centre of midfield – This enabled Omonia to take charge of the game again and with 20 minutes to go went into a 3-1 lead with a great solo run with a fine left foot finish from Luke Prokopiou.

Omonia were on the way to 3 points but Apoel fought back in the last 10 minutes after Chris Zacharia made four important changes and took advantage of 2 mistakes from the Omonia defence to earn a point with two goals from a second from George Lutaaya and Andros Chambi.

Anorthosis 6 Asha 0

Hot favourites for the title Anorthosis showed they mean business from the off by beating newly promoted second division champions Asha. They never really took their foot off the pedal and continued pursuing for goals throughout the game.

Anorthosis goals came from Danny Coolridge 2, Vas Xrisikos 3 and Spencer Stylianou.

 

Second Division

Cinar 5 Pantel 2

The season kicked off with a bang for Cinar as they romped to a convincing win against a young Pantel side.
It took Cinar 10 minutes to open the scoring when Erjan’s persistence paid off with a determined run before squaring the ball for Zaine to slot home.
20 minutes into the game, Erkan’s freekick found Zaine who headed the receiving ball down to Erjan to shoot for 2-0.  3 minutes later Pantel pulled one back with a long range hit beating keeper Tolga for 2-1.
Cinar kept the ball in the second half and their free flowing football paid off in the 58th minute with Omer’s pass finding Zaine who coolly lobbed the keeper from 20 yard, 3-1. . 2 minutes later it was Zaine the provider as Cullen ran in to make it 4-1. With 70 minutes gone Pantel were awarded a penalty to make it 4-2.  Cinar carried off where they left off when Neil’s long pass found the marauding Zaine to score his hatrick and Cinar’s fifth.
Pantel’s goals came from George Costa and Malis.
It was an exceptional win, especially as Cinar were without a recognised keeper with ex manager Tolga Huseyin between the sticks.

Akanthou 1 Brotherhood 3

A great start for Brotherhood with a good win over newcomers Akanthou with their goals coming from Kaan Yucel on 60 & 70th minutes and Ahmet Pilot on the 80th minute.

Panathinaikos 4 KLN 5

What a cracking game this was KLN were down 3-0 to Panathinaikos within twenty minutes but somehow  recovered to get it back to 3-3 just before the break and took the lead in the 70th minute and added a 5th in the 80th minute making it 5-3. Panathinaikos reduced the score to 5-4 in added time.

KLN’S goals came from Chris Papacosta 2, Rory Michael, Dillon and Pant. and Panathinaikos goals came from Zak Uribarri 2 Dylan Loback and Nick Michael.
