Famagusta District Court on Monday four men appeared accused and found guilty of assaulting Egyptian millionaire businessman Naguib Sawiris and his associate in the early hours of 30th September 2016 in a Ayia Napa nightclub.

Sawiris is a major investor in the Ayia Napa marina and was here in Cyprus at the time for the laying of the foundation stone for the marina.

The four accused are Panayiotis Kallitsionis, 27 from Dherynia, Nicolas Evangelides, 31 from Avgorou, Andreas Erodotou, 27, from Ayia Varvara, Nicosia   and 28-year-old  Yiannos Christou from Mosfiloti .

Sawiris had told the court that the row started when one of his colleagues  climbed on to a sofa to dance. The waiter asked them to get down, Sawiris asked to see the manager to report the incident, but  was attacked then a security guard threw him to the ground and kicked him.  Sawiris said he was hit in the ear, head and chest and when his associate intervened to try to protect him he was also  assaulted.

Sawiris lost his mobile phone and shoes while his associate lost a watch valued at 25,000 euros. When they asked for their personal items, they were given back only the mobile telephone and shoes.

The case continues tomorrow..
