Sky Bet Championship

The game of the day in the Sky Bet Championship came at Carrow Road. A seven-goal thriller was played out between Norwich City and West Bromwich Albion, in which the visitors came away with all three points. The Baggies’ goals came from a Jay Rodriguez double, with Harvey Barnes and Hal Robson-Kanu also netting to get Darren Moore and the Albion their first win of the season.

There were goals galore at Villa Park too. Aston Villa made it two wins from two, but needed a 93rd-minute Birkir Bjarnason strike to overcome Wigan Athletic 3-2.

Another team to make it two from two was Swansea City. Joe Rodon struck the only goal of the game against Preston North End at the Liberty Stadium.

Middlesbrough maintained their strong start to the season thanks to a first-half Britt Assombalonga goal. That seldom strike was enough to secure a 1-0 victory over Birmingham City.

Nottingham Forest notched their first win of the season at home to Reading. El Arbi Soudani was the man to net the winning strike at the City Ground.

Rotherham United recorded their first win of season thanks to a 90th-minute Michael Smith header. That goal meant Paul Hurst is still in search of his first win as Ipswich Town manager.

Stoke City and Brentford met for the first time in 16 years, and shared a 1-1 draw in Staffordshire. Benik Afobe had given the Potters the lead, but an impressive Ollie Watkins strike secured a point for the Bees.

Another 1-1 draw came at Hillsborough. Hull City had taken the lead through Frazier Campbell but a Fernando Forestieri penalty meant it finished one apiece.

Draws also came between Bolton Wanderers and Bristol City, and Blackburn Rovers and Millwall. Phil Parkinson’s Trotters had led 2-0, but goals from Andreas Weimann and Jamie Paterson rescued Lee Johnson’s Robins a point. Rovers and Millwall were goalless.

In the day’s televised action, Leeds United travelled to Derby County. Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds made it two wins from two for the season with an impressive 4-1 victory over the Rams. The Whites’ goals from through a Kemar Roofe brace, and strikes from Mateusz Klich and Ezgjan Alioski.

Sky Bet League One

Five teams made it two wins from two in Sky Bet League One.

The pick of the results from that bunch came from Peterborough United. They travelled to Rochdale and came from a goal down to win 4-1. Matty Godden and Jason Cummings both found the net once, while Mark O’Hara netted a brace.

Barnsley won 2-0 away at Yorkshire rivals Bradford City. Tom Bradshaw and Victor Adeboyejo goals accompanied a fine defensive display, the Tykes are yet to ship a goal this season.

Malik Walks, Joe Wright and Jon Marquis fired Doncaster Rovers to a 3-0 home victory over Wycombe Wanderers.

Gillingham and Portsmouth were the other two to keep up the perfect start. Pompey travelled to Blackpool and won 2-1, while Gillingham dispatched Burton Albion 3-1 at home.

Accrington Stanley got their campaign off the mark with an away win at Bristol City. Sean McConville’s brace proved enough to bury the Gas on their own patch.

Joey Barton claimed his first win as a manager. His Fleetwood Town side travelled to the Kassam Stadium and defeated Oxford United 2-0 thanks to goals from Ched Evans and Paddy Madden.

Lyle Taylor was again on the scoresheet for Charlton Athletic, but this time, not in vein. His goal, along with Karl Ahearne-Grant’s sent the Addicks to a 2-1 home win against Shrewsbury Town.

Three 1-1 draws came in the division. Scunthorpe United and Walsall, Plymouth Argyle and Southend United, and Luton Town and Sunderland all shared the scoreline.

The only goalless draw in the division came between AFC Wimbledon and Coventry City.

Sky Bet League Two

Life under Matt Taylor continues to be good for Exeter City. The Grecians made it two from two, thanks to goals from Pierce Sweeney and Jayden Stockley in a 2-0 win away at winless Morecambe.

Lincoln City hit four goals past Swindon Town on their return to Sincil Bank. John Akinde, Michael Bostwick, Harry Toffolo and Matt Green were all on the scoresheet in an emphatic victory.

Milton Keynes Dons also kept up a 100% record. Ousseynou Cisse struck late against Bury for Paul Tisdale’s men.

Tranmere Rovers and Macclesfield Town both played their first home games back in the EFL. Tranmere got off to a winning start thanks to a James Norwood goal in a 1-0 win. The Silkmen however, were defeated 2-0 at Moss Rose by Grimsby Town.

Cambridge United got the better of Notts County in a five-goal thriller thanks to three second-half goals. Ade Azeez netted a brace in the 15 minutes, and Barry Corr scored a 91st-minute winner to secure the points.

Colchester United got their first win of the season with a 2-0 win over Port Vale. Stevenage also recored their first three pointer with 3-1 win away at Crawley Town.

Yeovil Town and Mansfield were drawing 2-2 by the time 27 minutes was on the clock at Huish Park, and that’s how it remained as the teams went on to share the points.

Padraig Amond hit Newport County to a 1-0 win at home to last weekend’s high flyers, Crewe Alexandra.

Northampton Town made the long trip to Carlisle United, and earned a 2-2 draw thanks to goals from Matt Crooks and Kevin van Veen.

A draw also came between Forest Green Rovers and Oldham Athletic, they were tied 1-1.
