Cypriot Paralympic gold medallist Karolina Pelendritou won the silver medal at the 2018 World Para Swimming Allianz European Championships in Dublin, Ireland.

Pelendritou, who is visually impaired, finished second in the final of the Women`s 100m Breaststroke SB12, two years after having won bronze at the 2016 European Championships in Funchal, Portugal.

Germany’s Elena Krawzow secured gold as Belarus’ Anastasiya Zudzilava took bronze.

The 31-year-old Cypriot athlete won two gold medals at the 2004 Paralympic Games in Athens and the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing.

Meanwhile, in Pilsen, Czech Republic, Cypriot Christos Misos, who has total vision loss, took the silver medal at the Εuro 2018 Para-Archery Championships.

The 40-year-old Cypriot competed in the final of VI-1 category against Italy’s Matteo Panariello.

He is the first Cypriot archer with visual impairment to take part in a European competition.

“Our efforts were rewarded. My intense training and my love for archery have granted me the silver medal. I am very happy with the result and I will definitely continue to try and fight for the best” said Misos, who lost his sight five years ago due to a rare autoimmune disease.
