A building permit for the construction of a sky observatory in the Troodos mountain area is expected to be issued soon, CNA has learnt.

The sky observatory will be built outside the village of Agridia.

The selection of the area was made due to the excellent weather conditions that allow for optimal sky observation.

The area is also strategic, since it is only 45 minutes’ drive from Cyprus’ biggest towns, the capital Nicosia and Limassol.

The whole project, which includes other works as well, is estimated to cost 1.6 million euro. Competent authorities believe that it will have a positive impact on the development of the wider area of Troodos and will contribute to education and tourist development.
