On Tuesday 3rd July 2018 the first ever direct flight to Greece took off from Southampton Airport. The flight was launched by FlyLolo, a virtual carrier which utilises other airline capacity. The flight to the island of Skiathos was undertaken by a Flybe E195 aircraft and will operate on a weekly basis (every Tuesday). No other carrier flies between the two destinations, and the seasonal service will operate until 2 October.

The new route was opened by Southampton City Councillor Spiros Vassiliou, Neil Garwood Southampton Airport MD, Paul Dendle FlyLolo CEO and Steven Marshall Southampton Airport Head of Airline Marketing & Development.

Councillor Spiros Vassiliou said “I am delighted that the first ever direct flight to Greece is being launched from our fantastic local Southampton Airport!
I have long tried to contact many different airlines to ask them to operate a direct route to Greece and was told on countless occasions that this would be impossible, but now thanks to Flylolo this has been made a reality.
It has only been made possible because of determination and commitment of FlyLolo and Southampton Airport. I would like to thank everyone involved for making this connection a reality and am looking forward to even more Greek destinations starting in 2019!
I am thrilled that people in this area can now easily enjoy the beauty, history and hospitality that Greece has to offer.”
FlyLolo are due to start other direct routes from Southampton Airport to Greece in 2019 which include: Corfu, Kalamata, Kefalonia, Kos, Thessaloniki and Skiathos.
