Detectives are appealing for information and witnesses following the death of a man in Leytonstone.

Police were called at 0753hrs on Saturday, 7 July, to a critically injured man found in a car park off Leytonstone High Road, E11.

Officers attended along with London Ambulance Service. The man – aged in his 50s – was pronounced dead at the scene.

He has been identified as Janek Brakonecki, 57, a Polish national who lived in London.

A post-mortem examination held on Sunday, 8 July, was inconclusive. Officers await the outcome of further tests.

Detectives from the Homicide and Major Crime Command are investigating.

DCI Gary Holmes said: “We are making urgent enquiries to establish the circumstance that led to Mr Brakonecki’s death. At this time, we must keep an open mind as to the cause of death, and I am appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward and speak with police.”

A man, aged in his 60s, was arrested on Saturday 7 July on suspicion of murder. He has been bailed to a date in August pending further enquiries.
