Τhe deliberations of the Standing Committee of Economy and Sustainable Development of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, hosted by Cyprus, with the participation of over 90 MPs and senators from 20 Asian countries wrapped up on Wednesday.

The committee approved six draft resolutions which will be forwarded to the next Plenary of the Assembly which will convene at the end of autumn.
A House of Representatives statement said the committee dealt with issues concerning energy, viable and green development and issues that concern improving the quality of life for the people in the Asian continent.

The Energy Advisory Group also convened, at the initiative of Kuwait and discussed energy security and its role in sustainable development in Asia.
The Committee’s decision to set up two more advisory groups, which are expected to give further impetus to the efforts to strengthen its work, is important. Following a suggestion of the Russian delegation, it was decided to set up a working group to examine financial opportunities and tools to strengthen green economy, while the Iranian delegation suggested setting up an informal group to examine the problems of the water crisis in Asia, a matter of particular interest to Cyprus.

On the sidelines of the deliberations, Chairman of the Committee and Vice Chair of the Assembly Nicos Tornaritis held bilateral meetings with the heads of the Russian, Indian and Kuwait delegations where they discussed future committee activities and bilateral relations.
