Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal received a warm welcome when she visited Enfield Council’s Youth Offending Unit (YOU) on Tuesday, 12 June and presented officers with a prestigious award recognising their work in restorative justice.

The team officially received its Restorative Service Quality Mark from Her Royal Highness who is Patron of the Restorative Justice Council.

Restorative justice brings those harmed by crime or conflict and those responsible for the harm into communication, helping everyone affected to find a positive way forward.

The quality mark recognises Enfield Council YOU’s work to rehabilitate young offenders and help victims deal with the impact of crime. Only two youth offending teams in London including Enfield have received this kitemark.

Before the presentation, The Princess Royal met with staff at their base on the Claverings Estate in Edmonton as well as one of the unit’s volunteers, members of the police force and some young adults who have been through the restorative process.

Enfield Council’s leader, Cllr Nesil Caliskan, said: “I would like to congratulate the whole team which has shown its unwavering commitment to provide top-quality restorative practice in Enfield.

“We are pleased to welcome Her Royal Highness to Enfield and we will endeavour to continue delivering the highest-standards in restorative justice ensuring safer communities in the borough.”

The outstanding work of the YOU was recognised at a short evening reception at Claverings attended by the Chief Executive of Enfield Council, Mr. Ian Davis, Cllr Caliskan, Deputy Lieutenant of Enfield Mrs Ann Cable and other key partners.
