Nicosia Criminal Court on Thursday sentenced a 17 year old to eight years in prison for the rape of an 81 year old woman in her home in the Nicosia district. The young man had pleaded guilty to the crime.

Police said that on 31 March, the victim’s husband had reported that around 8.00 pm, while he was away, someone had broken into the house, attacked his wife and raped her.

The woman was taken to Nicosia General Hospital with a fractured hip and was hospitalised.
