TOTAL’s President for Exploration & Production in the Middle East, Stephane Michel will meet on Monday with President Nicos Anastasiades in a bid to discuss the French energy giant’s future steps in the Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone.

Reliable sources told CNA Michel visit is viewed as a follow- up to the discussions of Italian ENI’s CEO Claudio Descalzi last February in Cyprus, as ENI and TOTAL are partners in blocks 11 and 6 of the Cypriot EEZ.

President Anastasiades, Cyprus Energy Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis and Michel will discuss the deadline for an appraisal well in the Kalypso gas field in block 6, the next round of exploratory activities in the Cypriot EEZ, as well as the increase of TOTAL’s presence in Cyprus.

An exploratory drill in block six carried out in January 2017 revealed a “promising discovery” with geological structures similar of those in the giant Zohr gas field in the Egyptian EEZ. However no official data concerning the Kalypso field size have been disclosed yet.
