Cyprus’ new High Commissioner to Zimbabwe, based in Pretoria, Yiannis Iacovou has expressed gratitude to the President of the country, Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, for his stance in favour of a Cyprus settlement, in the framework of UN Security Council resolutions, supporting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.

According to a PIO press release issued on Monday, Iacovou, who presented his credentials to the President of Zimbabwe, held afterwards a tete a tete meeting with him, during which he conveyed the warm regards of President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades to the President of Zimbabwe, along with wishes for progress and prosperity for the people of his country.

The High Commissioner also assured he was ready to contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
