It is up to us, the members of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) to ensure zero tolerance to corruption, Cyprus MP Stella Kyriakides has said.
Kyriakides addressed the PACE in Strasbourg and made a statement as Chair of EPP group referring to the report of the independent commission on corruption claims in PACE.
In her statement the Cyprus Parliamentarian said that millions of citizens are expecting Council of Europe and its parliamentary assembly to defend their human rights and fundamental freedoms as well as democracy.
She said that if we fail to understand this and to meet the expectations of the citizens, then we will all be responsible for the devaluation of the CoE.
Referring to her Political Group, the EPP, Kyriakides expressed optimism for the future saying that the Group members wish to face the challenges before them. She said that all members of PACE have a great responsibility, not only through their proclamations, but also through their actions as they represent millions of European citizens.
