The Heads of Government of the Commonwealth member countries taking part in this week’s summit in London, which ends later today, express their solidarity towards Cyprus in relation to the Cyprus issue and against Turkey’s illegal actions in the Republic’s Exclusive Economic Zone.
 
Government Spokesman Prodromos Prodromou, who accompanies President Anastasiades at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), told reporters that the Joint Communique will include an explicit reference to Cyprus.
 
“Today the Heads of Government, including President Anastasiades, are at Windsor Castle where they have had the opportunity to hold a free discussion between them. Following that, a Statement by the Heads of States and a Joint Communique will be issued, in which there will be an explicit reference to Cyprus and the Cyprus issue.
 
“More specifically, the Heads of Commonwealth States express their support for the sovereignty, the independence and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, also supporting the efforts for a negotiated settlement of the Cyprus issue, based on the Map and the resolutions of the Security Council and of the United Nations in general.
 
“It is important that the Heads of the Commonwealth States express solidarity with the Republic of Cyprus on exercising its sovereign rights in the Exclusive Economic Zone. There is in the Communique an appeal for respect of the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, but also a call to refrain from acts or statements or any other aggressive behaviour that threatens the stability in the Eastern Mediterranean, with Turkey of course being the recipient (of this call).
 
“The President of the Republic has thanked for the continuing support that the Republic of Cyprus has been receiving from the Commonwealth and for the principled position through the Joint Communique.”
