Τhe Cyprus Institute will host the International Conference “Climate Change in the Mediterranean and the Middle East: Challenges and Solutions”, οn the 18th and 19th May 2018, at the “Filoxenia” Conference Centre in Nicosia. The conference is organised under the aegis of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nicos Anastasiades, and with support from the Representation of the European Commission in Cyprus.

According to a press release, the Conference will be preceded by two days of Scientific Workshops, which will focus on modelling predictions of Climate Change and its impacts (especially in the areas of sustainability, energy, health, agriculture, water security and migration), as examine and propose  mitigation and adaptation strategies.

Although the focus is regional, this is a Conference of global importance, as indicated by the composition of the International Advisory and Scientific Programme Committees. Participants at the Conference include prestigious speakers such as Laurent Fabius (former Prime Minister of France, who presided over the success of the COP21 Paris Agreement), Prof. Jeffrey Sachs (Director of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network), Prof. Petteri Taalas (Secretary-General of the World Meteorological Organisation), and many others.
