Two projects, the restoration of Panayia of Mnasi Church in the Turkish occupied Morphou Municipality and the restoration of the 1st Morphou Cemetery, are before the bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage for consideration.

According to a press release issued by Morphou Municipality, on the initiative of Mayor of the occupied town, Victora Hadjiavraam and in coordination with the Head of Greek Cypriot side to the bicommunal Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage Takis Hadjidemetriou, a difficult effort to approve the restoration was launched in March 2017.

After about a year of intense efforts, the Municipality was informed that both projects are before the Technical Heritage Committee for consideration.

For that reason, the Municipal Council calls on anyone that knows people who were buried in the 1st Morphou Cemetery to give their names to the Municipality by calling at 22447333.

The Technical Committee, comprising Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, is involved in various projects to restore and maintain different sites throughout Cyprus.

Cyprus has been divided since the 1974 Turkish invasion. Efforts to reunite the country have so far failed to yield results.
