A new development of affordable homes for rent is at the heart of plans given the green light by Haringey Council this week.

A site between Monument Way and Fairbanks Road in Tottenham Hale, will host a brand new three-block development by Newlon Housing Trust, with 54 new affordable homes for rent. The homes are being earmarked for families already on the council’s housing list.

Work on the development, which will include 24 two-bedroom, 18 three-bedroom and 12 one-bedroom homes could be underway as early as late 2018 after winning approval this week.

Haringey’s planning committee also gave the go ahead for 144 new homes to be built at 500 White Hart Lane in North Tottenham, currently the site of a vacant industrial unit. Of those, at least 29 will be affordable comprising a mix of social rent, shared ownership and affordable rent. The development will also boast new employment and commercial space, including workspaces, shops and offices.

Cllr Alan Strickland, Haringey Council Cabinet Member for Housing, Regeneration and Planning, said:

We’re determined to do whatever we can to bring a variety of new affordable homes for rent to Haringey and I’m delighted to see permission given for an entirely affordable rented development at Monument Way.

Together with the new homes to be built at the White Hart Lane development, this will see more than 80 new shared ownership and homes for affordable rent for Haringey residents.

These schemes underline our ongoing commitment to delivering the new homes, job opportunities and facilities that local people have made it clear they want to see.
