Bilateral relations, the Cyprus problem, energy security, and regional and European issues are on the agenda of a meeting between Cyprus’ Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides and US Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Wess Mitchell, in Nicosia, according to a Foreign Ministry tweet.

Mitchell is in Cyprus for meetings and has already met with President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades and Turkish Cypriot leader Mustafa Akinci.

After his meeting with Akinci, Mitchell said he had “a good conversation earlier with Mr. Anastasiades and just now I had a warm and extended conversation with Mr. Akinci.”

“We exchanged views, I expressed our support for resumption of talks and look forward to staying very engaged on these issues in the days ahead,” he added.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974, when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
