Four fire engines and 21 firefighters and officers were called to a rubbish fire next to a sports pavillion and a café in Lordship Lane, Tottenham this morning.

A quarter of a tonne was damaged by fire and a tree was destroyed. Part of the exterior cladding of the sports pavilion was also damaged, but firefighters prevented the fire from spreading further.

London Fire Brigade spokesperson said:

“Crews worked quickly to extinguish a large pile of furniture, trees and bushes alight this morning. The quick actions of crews on scene prevented any significant damage to the community centre next to the fire.”

The Brigade was called at 0820 and the fire was under control at 0923. Fire crews from Tottenham, Edmonton fire station attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
