CBBC young presenter and vlogger Nikki Christou scores a coup, securing an exclusive interview with Prime Minister Theresa May for her series, Nikki Lilly Meets…

13-year-old Nikki from London had an extraordinary year. As well as coping with her debilitating rare medical condition AVM which causes headaches, nosebleeds and swelling on one side of her face (requiring frequent hospital visits and operations in Denver and Great Ormond Street), she won CBBC’s Junior Bake-Off, bagged a Pride of Britain Award presented by Mary Berry, and shared her life in a CBBC award-winning My Life Documentary, Born to Vlog! Following the success of the documentary, CBBC has commissioned Nikki and Manchester-based TV production company Blakeway North to produce twenty short films in which Nikki meets and interviews high profile celebrities, writers, musicians, presenters and politicians.

Nikki bakes for her guests and grills them on vital information about their teenage lives and what it was like to be 13 for them, as well as exploring their passions and secret talents, and in each encounter, builds a lovely rapport.

Nikki has already conducted interviews with David Walliams, Nicole Scherzinger, Claudia Winkleman and Dev Griffin and her latest high-profile encounter is the British PM!

Prime Minister, Theresa May gave Nikki an exclusive interview in December 2017 at Downing Street just before she went to meet the Queen for her regular audience.

Nikki asked the Prime Minister what kind of teen she was: “I was a teenager who actually enjoyed school. Enjoyed reading books. I was quite quiet, quite shy. I was an only child.”

On what she liked about being thirteen: “You are constantly learning, aren’t you? Because you are not an adult, you don’t have the responsibilities you have as an adult, you can just enjoy life”

On dealing with negative comments: “In politics, you develop quite a thick skin. You get used to it. It is difficult and it happens all the time”

The PM goes on to tell Nikki about her childhood dog, a poodle that was knocked over by a car and lost a leg, about her fashion faux-pas bright yellow high platform sling back shoes, her one-hundred cookbooks and her penchant for Weetabix!

Sarah Murch, Executive Producer Blakeway North says: “Nikki is a superb interviewer. With guests ranging from Nicole Scherzinger to David Walliams and the Prime Minister – her charming interviews prove you don’t need to take a hard-hitting approach to get revealing, surprising interviews. They are a charming watch and her interviewees have all loved the encounters – not least because Nikki does a signature bake for them.”
