Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will inform EU member states leaders on the Turkish provocations in the Republic of Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone, during the EU Informal European Council that will take place on Friday in Brussels, while he will also have separe meetings with EU officials and European leaders.

According to a press release issued by the Presidency of the Republic, Anastasiades leaves on Wednesday for Brussels where he will participate in the Informal Meeting of the 27 EU heads of state or government that will take place on 23 February.

During the deliberations of the Informal Meeting, which will take the form of a working lunch, the President of the Republic will brief the leaders of the EU member states on the Turkish provocations in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Republic of Cyprus, it is noted.

The President will also hold separate meetings with the President of the European Council Donald Tusk and the President of the European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker. He will also meet with a number of European leaders including the President of France  Emmanuel Macron, the Prime Minister of Greece Alexis Tsipras and the Prime Minister of Italy Paolo Gentiloni, the press release added.

In addition, during his stay in Brussels, President Anastasiades will participate in the International High Level Conference on the Sahel.

The President, who will be accompanied in Brussels by the Government Spokesman Mr Nikos Christodoulides, will return to Cyprus on 24 February, the press release concluded.

Drillship Saipem 12000, commissioned by Italian energy company ENI, was halted on the 9th of February by Turkish warships en route to a location within block 3 of Cyprus`  EEZ.

Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
