The Prosecutor General`s Office of the Russian Federation has asked the Cyprus authorities to begin a criminal investigation into the case of senior attorney Eleni Loizidou, at the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus.

Attorney General Costas Clerides was asked by the Cyprus News Agency whether there was any kind of reaction from the Russian authorities with regard to the case and he confirmed that on December 1st 2017, the Prosecutor General`s Office of the Russian Federation requested that a criminal investigation be carried out on the interception of electronic data which also concern the Russian Prosecutor`s Office.

Personal emails of Loizidou, a senior attorney at the Law Office of the Republic of Cyprus, regarding her communications with officials at the Russian Prosecutor General’s office were hacked and posted on a Russian website. Last week, at the request of Cyprus’ Attorney General, the Cabinet appointed an investigator to look into the matter.
