Kazakhstan is interested in expanding its relations with Cyprus, Secretary of State, Gulshara Abdykalikova, has said.

According to a PIO press release, on 27 November 2017, in a special ceremony held in Astana, Kazakhstan, the Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Russian Federation, Leonidas Markides, presented his credentials as the new Ambassador of the Republic of Cyprus to the Republic of Kazakhstan, based in Moscow.

The official ceremony took place at the Akorda Presidential Palace. The Secretary of State, Gulshara Abdykalikova, received the credentials on behalf of President Nursultan Nazarbayev.

In a meeting held after the ceremony, Ambassador Markides referred to the very good level of the bilateral relations between Cyprus and Kazakhstan and thanked the Government of Kazakhstan for its principled position on the Cyprus issue.

Abdykalikova stressed that an active trade and economic partnership should complement the political dialogue between the two countries. Kazakhstan is interested in expanding and diversifying its trade and economic relations with Cyprus, while at the same time attracting Cypriot investments in the country`s economy, she noted.

Markides assured of his willingness and determination to work during his term as Ambassador to further strengthening the relations and the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
